About...
I believe that children are our future; oh wait, that one is already taken. Let me try again. I believe that the problem with most software and sites is that they concentrate too much on features and engineering and not enough on the user experience. I have found again and again that user-centered design coupled with an analytical approach to design, development and evolution is the most effective way of ensuring a compelling user experience. During my time at Macromedia, we championed the notion that 'experience matters'. This is a guiding principle in my work.
I manage technology and software teams in order to pay for my travelling habit. I spent a few years at Looksmart during the dotcom bubble, and helped them build what was going to be a major portal. It was fun and I was lucky enough to ride that wave over to Shockwave, where I was Executive Producer and Director of Product. That was an amazing experience, working on projects for Tim Burton, and Matt & Trey from South Park among others, but alas the bubble burst.
I then headed over to Shockwave's mothership, Macromedia where I was Executive Producer and led the redesign of Macromedia.com. Once we finished that project, I helped managed Macromedia's Experience Design team where we designed and developed many products that have come to market over the last few years, including the Halo design system and many of their mobile products.
I moved on to help start Macromedia's consulting practice and as the Sr Dir of User Experience and Analysis, I managed the design and business intelligence practice for the consulting group. It was another fantastic gig.
I recently left Macromedia to join Simplestar, a company focused on digital imaging. Simplestar makes it easy for peope to share their memories and tell their stories online. My new role as VP of Product and User Experience has me managing the user experience, product management, marketing and support teams.
You may have found your way here via the Postal Service site or one of my other side projects like the One campaign. Needless to say, I love consulting with inspired groups to help them realize their potential in the digital realm. Let me know if you have any interesting project that you want to talk about.
Oh yeah, I'm married, living in San Franciso by the beach and have two cats, one of which is a bit overweight. It's a good life.
Thanks for visiting.
